      Directorate of Distance Education under Rabindra Bharati University has been opened from 2002 - 2003 academic sesion following the approval of the State Government (vide No. 803-Edn(U) / IU (RB)-09/2002, dated 2nd July 2002). It has the status of an Institution under Rabindra Bharati University.

The Directorate of Distance Education, Rabindra Bharati University offers Correspondence Courses in:

  • Rabindra Sangeet for the degree of B.A. (Spl. Hons.)
  • Rabindra Sangeet and Vocal music for the degree of Master of Arts. 
  • Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Sanskrit, Environmental Studies and Education for the degree of Master of Arts.
  • Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) (More Information)
    The Master of Social Work is a two year professional post graduate degree course designed to help students acquire theoretical insights and skills of the effective handling of jobs in the field of Social Welfare, Social Work and Social Development.

The syllabus for each subject in the relevant course shall be the same as in the formal stream for on-campus students. The examinations, shall be of the same standard.

 

Admission Eligibility
  • For B.A. (Spl. Hons.) in Rabindra Sangeet:
    Minimum qualification for applying:
    Graduate of any stream (general, professional, performing, etc.) from a recognised university.
  • For M.A. in Rabindra Sangeet and Vocal Music:
    Minimum qualification for applying:
    (10 + 2 + 3) General Graduates / Graduates with Hons. / Spl. Hons. or major subject or Post Graduates of any stream or (10 + 2 + 4) Graduates of any professional courses.
  • For M.A. in Bengali, English, History, Political Science Sanskrit and Education:
    Minimum qualification for applying:
    Either a Honours Degree in the concerned subject
    Or  a Special Honours Degree in the concerned subject
    Or  (10 + 2 + 3) Pass or general graduates with qualifying marks in the subject concerned carrying a total of at least 300 marks
    Or  (10 + 2 + 2) Pass graduates with 1 year Bridge Course from a recognised university in the concerned subject
    Or  (10 + 1 + 3) / (11 + 3) Pass graduates with qualifying marks in the subject concerned carrying a total of at least 300 marks.
    * For Education: Any graduate or post-graduate with B.Ed. or equivalent degree are also eligible besides the above mentioned conditions.
  • Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) and M.A. in Environmental Studies:
    Admission to M.S.W. course is open to (10 + 2 + 3) graduates / Post graduates of any faculty of any recognised university. Seats may be restricted as may be decided by the Directorate.

 

Duration

Each of the courses shall be of two years duration.

For Foreign / NRI students

Total Course fee for Rabindra Sangeet will be $1,200 for each part (Spl. Hons.) 

Total Course fee for Rabindra Sangeet and Vocal Music will be $3,000 for each part (M.A.)

Total Course fee for English, Bengali, Political Science, History, Education and Sanskrit courses will be $800 for each part (M.A.).

Total Course fee for Environmental Studies will be $1,000 for each part (M.A.)

Total Course fee for M.S.W. course will be $2,000 for each part (M.A.)

 

Payment

All fees shall have to be paid in the following manner:

The amount is to be deposited with the Bank as specified by the University, against the Deposit Challan attached to the application form, either in cash or by Bank Draft or Banker's cheque drawn in favour of  "Directorate of Distance Education, Rabindra Bharati University", payable at Kolkata.

 

Information about "M. S. W." Course

English, however a candidate is permitted to write answer in Bengali.

Heads of Passing

The following shall be independent heads of Passing: M. S. W. Part I
(i) Written Theory Papers (minimum 35% marks is to be qualified for promotion to M. S. W. Part II & for passing 40% in aggregate)
(ii) Field Work (minimum 40% marks for passing)
(iii) Project Work & Viva (minimum 40% marks for passing)

Failure in any one of the above heads shall be considered failure at the M. S. W. course. Three chances in consecutive three years will be given for each examination (Part I / Part II) for passing. In M. S. W. Part II, candidates failing any one of the written / theory; in (field work); (Project work) will be allowed to appear for the same in the next year which will be considered as a "loss or chance".

Minimum Requirement for Passing

(i) 40% (in theory papers); 40% (in field work); 40% in (project work & Viva)
(ii) 60% and above - First Class
(iii) 40% and above but below 60% - Second Class
(iv) below 40% - Failed

The decision of the authority on any item mentioned above is binding to the candidate concerned. In case of any doubt and difficulty the decision of the authority is final.

 

N.B. - At the Time of Enrolment:
(i)   One self addressed cloth-attached envelope and
(ii)  Three self addressed postal envelopes are to be submitted.
(iii) Those who are interested can avail of the Central library facility, separate form from DDE office will be available for this purpose.
